My name is Julie Lloyd, 57 years old and I'm a retired community nurse. I had to take early retirement due to back issues. Swimming is my way of keeping fit and a perfect way to raise money for charity. Despite being retired I still want to give something back.
This year I have set myself a challenge of swimming in all 4 nations of the British Isles, for the Royal Liverpool Hospital. Thus far I have swum 5km in Lake Bala, Wales. 2.2km under 12 bridges down the River Liffey in the centre of Dublin, starting by the gates of the Guinness Factory and finishing with a decontamination shower from the Dublin Fire Brigade outside the Customs House. My longest swim to date was an End to End of Coniston 5.25 miles (8.4km). All my swims are undertaken in just my swimsuit, swim hat and goggles.
3 legs of my challenge completed and now for Scotland. I'm really looking forward to crossing the iconic Firth of Forth. My first ever swim in 2013 was to cross the River Mersey rather than using the ferry boat.
