Hi there, Sharon here, a little introduction to myself and my business…….. I was in Local Government for 23 years, graduating from University in 1988. I lived a busy life as a wife and mother of two children with a full-time job. In 2011, I took a voluntary redundancy package. My family and I had moved onto a small farm, with a future dream of pigs, chickens, fresh veg and country living. Part of the redevelopment of the farm buildings was the conversion of cart sheds to holiday let cottages. On leaving my long-term career, I pursued my life-long aspiration of learning massage with a highly recommended accredited school. My first diploma (gained in May 2012) was in Swedish Massage with the Western School. Immediately after this first Diploma, I signed up for my next two qualifications, On-Site Seated Acupressure Massage, and Remedial & Sports Massage. Whilst I was knee-deep in learning the detailed anatomy, physiology and pathology content of these courses, I went through several whole-life changes simultaneously. By the time I had completed these next two diplomas, I had coped with the bereavement of my mother, the end of my 22-year marriage, empty-nest syndrome as my kids went off to university, and moving into my own home in January 2013. My massage skills have developed extensively over these last three years. I have a valued and growing client base with both males and females ranging from 13/14 years of age – young swimmers and athletes, up to several regular clients who are in their mid-70’s and understand the benefits that regular massages can bring to our overall health and well-being. I was proud and honoured to be accepted as a Sports Therapist for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow during Summer 2014 – a fantastic experience. I was based at Scotstoun, and was able to treat a steady stream of players from across the Commonwealth, including Bronze Medal Winners in the Gents Doubles Table Tennis from India. To be at the heart of the action in both Squash and Table Tennis for the duration of the Games was just wonderful. One of the best aspects of this job (besides working with wonderful clients of course!) is the understanding that I have so much more to learn! I am developing my skills base constantly, and in 2015 I have gained my Level 1 Accreditation with the IRIS Cancer Partnership. IRIS’s work is to bring massage to oncology patients within a clinical setting. I have also recently started working as a sessional complementary therapist for Motor Neurone Disease Scotland. In this busy year I also completed a Diploma in Reflexology with Scottish Massage Schools. I have begun an exciting new journey in the field of Myofacial Release. This treatment is a highly effective soft tissue technique that realigns the body’s connective tissue. By the end of 2016, I will have completed an Advanced Clinical Diploma with Myofacial Release UK.
