A team of Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors are joining in our Forth Swim on the 6th September, please see below from the team:
As some of you will know a couple of brave people from the project will be swimming across the Forth on Sunday the 6th of September.
Myself along with Alastair Black, Sean Wichman, Luis Tardio, Borja Martinez and Anna Henly will be swimming in representation of the project in the waters where all of you have been working for the last couple of years giving shape to the impressive Queensferry Crossing.
The swim starts from South Queensferry leaving at Hawes pier and is swam along by the rail bridge to finish at the old pier at North Queensferry. You are all welcome to come along and give us your support for the swimming race! The swim starts at 09:00 am with registration from 07:00am sharp. We’ll be delighted to see you there cheering up! Your support will help us overcome the nearly “extreme conditions” including cold water, strong current, waves and jelly fishes!!
Some of you might also know that I, together with some of my friends from the childhood, set up a charity organisation almost 20 years ago. Amycos (http://amycos.org/) is a Non-governmental Organization for Cooperation with headquarters in my home city (Burgos, Spain). Most of Amycos development and cooperation projects are carried out in countries of Central and South America. More than 2,000 houses for very poor families have already been built since Amycos started its activity. Numerous water supply schemes for very remote and isolated areas with no access to water have also been completed thanks to Amycos.
The swimmers of the FCBC team have kindly agreed to link the Forth Swim to one of Amycos projects. I’ve chosen Amycos “grants scheme for poor kids in Nicaragua” as education is the most efficient way to grant poor kids a decent life.
Approx. £135 per kid per year are required so that a scholarship can be granted. The more money we can raise the more kids will be able to access education! (see attached file “Grants scheme_photos” showing some pictures of some of the kids who received a grant in previous years)
I will make sure that anyone who donate will receive in gratitude one Cordoba (Nicaraguan currency – refer to the attached file) as I brought a decent amount of them from my last trip to Nicaragua. So please leave your name in the JustGiving page when donating along with a message indicating the organisation that you are working for (in case I don’t know who you are!) so that I can hand out a Cordoba to you!
Please forward this e-mail to anyone that might be interested in watching the event and/or donating for this very worthy cause.
On behalf of FCBC Forth Swim Team and of the kids who will receive an education grant thanks to your donation many thanks for taking your time to read this and for your support!
