Ok - so having been a swimmer all my life ( 53 years), in September last year I decided to enter the Great North Swim to raise funds for kidney research - a cause very close to my heart. Thinking all I had to do was to be able to swim 2 miles in the local pool I thought - no problem !! How wrong I was. Luckily in January this year I came across Vigour events - and I have never looked back. My very first phone call to Kirstin enquiring about wetsuit hire was greeted with warmth and friendliness, so I decided to take the plunge at Bardowie Loch in January when the temperature was a balmy 3 degrees!! Lots of friendly faces and loads of encouragement from Robert, Kirstin and fellow swimmers made my introduction to open water swimming less painful than it could have been. I was addicted ! I soon managed to persuade my sisters Eileen and Susan to join in and all three of us have been swimming regularly at Bardowie. Robert also runs open water swimming at Strathclyde Park and Pinkston water sports centre, which I can highly recommend. He has a great team who are very supportive and I feel very safe in the water knowing I have the safety crew there at all times.
Last week I completed 2 miles in Lake Windermere in 1 hour and 6 minutes and I can't thank everyone at Vigour events enough for their support.
